Bio

Paul Donnelly began his career as a guitarist at the age of 15 when he auditioned successfully for Chris Rea over the telephone. He studied at the Leeds College of Music and became a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Moving to London, Paul went on to work as a session guitarist, playing for a variety of films, television, radio, pop albums and West End shows. He has recorded and toured with such diverse artists as Chic, The Nolan Sisters, The Marvelettes, The Platters, Alan Price and Eric Burden of the Animals, Gene Chandler (Duke of Earl), Anthony Hopkins in Pravda at the National Theatre. Other credits include: The Two Ronnies at the London Palladium, Jimmy Tarbuck, Pans People, Barry Blue (producer for Heat Wave), Clodagh Rodgers. A film for Gina Lollobrigida, Stephanie Powers ,Alan Titchmarsh's radio show and concerts in Italy for the composer Michael Nyman. He has also toured extensively in Europe, Russia and the Far East.

From the year 2000 onwards Paul was a regular player for 3 years in succession at the annual Classic American Guitar Show in New York and in 2007 released his debut album, "Dance for the King".

Paul was also a founder member of the quartet Djangolgy for 7 years, playing original compositions in the style of Django Reinhardt. They were featured on BBC radio 2.

In 2010 Paul released his second CD, "Lament". Tunes from both his guitar instrumental albums have been featured on Radio stations in New York and England. The Desmond Carrington show on BBC Radio 2 featured Paul twice. Paul has also been a finalist three times in a row, in the USA Song writing competition 2009 to 2011.

CURRENTLY Paul is familiar to audiences recording and playing for French Artist, Flossie Malavialle. Paul's original guitar based compositions are featured on Adam Wakeman's The Perfect Music Library. Paul's original tune "The Water" being used in an advert. Paul also co-wrote a song with Grammy award winner singer song writer Mat Redman that has been published globally. Paul still plays a wide variety of styles and various professional gigs.

TEACHING Paul was self taught until the age of 17 when he studied guitar with Richard Wright, currently guitar teacher of the Yehudi Menuhin School. Later, studying for three years with session guitarist, Eric Kershaw and deputising for him, teaching school children at the Leeds College of Music. During 1986 Paul commenced teaching guitar at Rickmansworth, Clement Dane in Chorleywood, Queens, Watford Boys and Girls grammar schools in the Hertfordshire area whilst teaching adult guitar night classes at Harrow and Stanmore Colleges. Paul has taught guitar to a wide age range too. Certain pupils are now professional musicians.

Paul moved back to Teesside in 1996 to take up a full time guitar teaching post, working for the local Music Service. His job involves teaching all age groups within the area where his love of the guitar first started.

Paul currently teaches guitar for Egglescliffe School which specialises in Music and Yarm primary school.
